The Power of No: Saying No to Oprah
The Power of No: Saying No to Oprah
No. What a powerful word! How do you feel about saying "no" in some situations? I notice that saying "no" to certain people can often be challenging for me. I remember it was incredibly difficult for me when I was younger, and it's still hard for me today, as an adult. Sometimes I find myself saying "yes" when "no" would really be more authentic. Do you ever feel the same way?Today, I had to decline an incredible offer from O, The Oprah Magazine. I was asked to participate in a follow up photo shoot in New York City - yes, a second opportunity with Oprah, as I have shot for the magazine previously in 2009.
Getting the news of my second opportunity to shoot with O, The Oprah Magazine |
However, I have a very important meeting for my shoe line, Lauren Lorraine, scheduled on the same day as the shoot, and I feel it would be irresponsible for me to miss this important meeting. But how could I say "no" to Oprah and her magazine, all about living your best life? Wouldn't most girls cancel everything and jump at the opportunity to fly to New York for a fabulous photo shoot for a magazine that garners 16 million readers ever month? I want to say "yes!" What an incredible opportunity - again!
My first shoot with O, The Oprah Magazine |
Lauren Jones in O, The Oprah Magazine |
Why is saying "no" so challenging? For me, it comes down to a few things. I become anxious that people will get upset or disappointed if I say "no." I feel I might miss an opportunity. I'm also not a huge fan of hearing "no" myself, so being the one saying it can often be challenging. I consider myself to be a "yes" person and pride myself on being open minded, willing, and ready to say "yes", especially when I see a great opportunity - like Oprah calling me for a photo shoot in New York! "No" sometimes seems like a failure, weakness, or, overall, just negative.
Saying "no", however, is an important aspect to living a balanced and authentic life. Our ability to say "no" with confidence can allow us to have peace and feel powerful over our life decisions. "No" is not about being negative, but is rather about creating healthy boundaries, honoring ourselves, and sometimes even honoring other commitments we have made previously.
Feeling overwhelmed or stressed can often be a reflection that you haven't said "no" when you needed to. When we don't say "no" in an authentic way we often end up feeling burdened, resentful, and even victimized (even when we are responsible, having said "yes" in the first place).
Saying "no" has real consequences and we may even upset or disappoint others. We may even be disappointed ourselves! We may also have a significant amount of fear about saying "no" to certain people, like our boss or a friend, or in certain situations, such as at work or with clients, or, I don't know, when Oprah comes calling?
However, there is power in using "no" to your benefit. Being able to confidently, and kindly, say "no" can create freedom - and may even open up the possibility for other opportunities. Most importantly, being able to say "no" with honesty and compassion, we are actually honoring and appreciating ourselves.

Fall Fashion & Accessories
Fall Fashion & Accessories I am loving for 2013
Jacket, Top and Pants: Club Monaco. Purse: Louis Vuitton. Sunglasses: Ray Ban. iphone Cover: Kate Spade. |
Handbag: White Hermes Birkin Bag, 35 |
Classic Chanel color with gold hardware, a more "sporty" look, according the sales lady at Chanel in Dallas, TX. |
It's September 4th, 2013, and the warm summer season is coming to a close. I can already feel the morning air getting a bit more brisk and have noticed the school buses carrying students off to fall classes. Oh summer, don't go! But, the cyclical change that converts the leaves from a vibrant green hue to newly colored golden and amber tones, like new fashion, brings great aesthetic pleasure and ambiance - change being just one of the many thrilling aspects of the encroaching fall season. While designing for the upcoming season, I daydream about all the rich new textured fabrics, over-sized off-the-shoulder sweaters, leather trimmed leggings, fresh shoe collections, like our latest Lauren Lorraine sampling, and pairing each of these exciting new fashions with timeless handbags, like those from Chanel. My favorite Chanel is the classic flap in black caviar with gold hardware. And let's not forget the excitement over the "The Birkin Bag", pictured above.
This fall 2013 season, I'm loving Club Monaco, Chanel, Ray Ban, Lauren Lorraine, BCBG, and Kate Spade. What's on your fall fashion 2013 "must have" list?

Be Fabulous
“Our deepest fear is not that we are
inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It
is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually,
who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does
not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so
that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to
shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God
that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as
we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our
presence automatically liberates others.”

Favorite Fashion Items for Fall 2013 | Lauren Lorraine Jones
I hope you guys are enjoying a fabulous summer!
I wanted to share a few of my favorite "must have" items for this upcoming fall 2013.
My first essential items are the Lauren Loraine Luna flats, with lucite, metallic, and jade and coral details, paired with my favorite Celine edge tote in bag in camel - classic and chic.
Next, we move to Chanel. You can't go wrong with one in each color! I will pair my Chanel bags with one of my favorite peep toe pumps, Lauren Lorraine Candy in black or jade, depending on the overall OOTD
.
I also have a major fashion fixation on rich jewel tone hues for the fall, so of course, the Hermes Birkin in teal goes perfectly with the Lauren Lorraine Candy in jade.
And last, a colorful pinwheel of a few of my favorites from the current Lauren Lorraine shoe collection! Something chic for everyone.
Shop Lauren Lorraine online at the official website: LaurenLorraine.com.
Enjoy!

Lauren Lorraine Bridal Shoes
Every girl (or almost every girl, as I don't want to write in absolutes) wants to be a bride at some point in life, or at the very least, she can appreciate the excitement and glamor that goes into the creation of being a fabulous bride, complete with every perfect detail from the dress, to the hair and makeup, and finally, the shoes. She must have the perfect shoes to complete the look. And I don't mean any run of the mill looking bride, I am referring to a knock out, drop dead gorgeous, one of a kind bride - a princess - on her wedding day. So, with all of this in mind, the Lauren Lorraine Bridal Collection was created. The satins, the finest. The rhinestones, brilliant. The colors, palettes of the most exciting hues. All for the Lauren Lorraine bride. View the collection here: Lauren Lorraine Bridal Collection.

The Price is Right as a Barker's Beauty
Recently, I was asked which job, of all the many modeling and acting jobs I have procured, has been my favorite. I look back and think they have all been extraordinary experiences, but one of my most memorable times was my work with Bob Barker on The Price is Right. It was a fun, fast paced environment, and the people were great to work with. I miss my time there for sure! But now, on to new things! #LaurenLorraineShoes Xx
